Social Networking – An Old Head On New Shoulders

Posted by kpThorky on May 5, 2010

With the success of the last round of Social Networking workshops, Advanced Training Group are throwing the Social Networking net further afield this time. In addition to Bangkok, workshops are also being held in Pattaya City and Phuket in what is being described as roadshow, Ken Thorkildsen of Advanced Training Group looks at the Social Networking phenomenon and who is using what.

The computer age has really hurried along business over the last 20 years. From the days when only a few businesses used a computer and indeed all those years ago I am remembered of a client who called computers “a fad”, to now where essentially computers are regarded by some as just important as an air supply.

Business in that time really has not changed, we still prefer do business and network face to face wherever possible but client loyalty is less regarded as there are more and more outlets for businesses to grab clients, to move their heads and ultimately to steal them away from you. It is indeed a difficult job to get a client and even harder to keep one. One thing is for certain, the business world has shrunk but the amount of businesses vying for position in this shrunken world has grown.

Far from changing the business world, the internet revolution has changed the way businesses can promote and market themselves to the population. There seems to be a million and one internet companies all offering the same products with “unbeatable” value or indeed giving their opinion on something. Trawling through the internet dustbin of companies can take what seems like a lifetime when really all the client has is an hour or so during their lunch break to get the information they are looking for.

So what advantages do businesses have and what tools can be used to retain clients, to buy their loyalty and importantly to keep your business in front of the client? Well, it seems that old principle of simple Networking but on a new footing seems to be the order of the day. The last four or five years has seen consumers spending more time online and consequently building up an online life into what is now commonly known as social networking. Social networking is easy as all your friends, family, business contacts etc are all there in a nice folder. Social networking is convenient as you can quickly hop on the PC and instant message, update your status or tweet. Social networking will also let everyone know, in an instant, if something is good or bad.

The last one is very important for businesses as it means that a good review from your product or service can wing it’s way around numerous Twitter, Facebook, My Space, Digg, Blog etc. You name is, within the space of an hour Social Networking news can do more than the time it took for the first letter in an old fashioned mail shot to be printed, let alone delivered. What is better way for a business to grow than through old fashioned referrals and social networking is exactly that but faster. Mail shots by letter or indeed email shots to a list of unknown people on a database is very ineffective and indeed the chances of your email shot being read by the recipient is very slim and probably has the same chance as that being sent by some Nigerian company offering you $7.5m for a safe and legal investment.

Social network marketing is giving businesses the opportunity to market to clients by numerous different angles and all at the client’s leisure without the client feeling hassled at the amount of correspondence that you are sending them. It is human nature to want to be part of a group and by offering consumers to be part of your online Facebook business group or asking them to follow your Tweets on Twitter or to read your blog businesses can now ask client’s to buy their brand for free. Businesses can now get their product and company updates out there to their prospective clients in an instant, direct the client to their website and brochure, the client choose the product and be delivered the following day.

So who is using social networking? Well the short answer is the smart business. The question is really, who should be using social networking? And the answer is any business that has a customer.

Far from being a passing fad, the internet and social networking phenomenon is here to stay and will only get faster, higher and stronger.

Advanced Training Group are providing social networking workshops around Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket, Thailand. They will also implement your company’s business in the social networking area.

Advanced Training Group Social Networking in Action

Posted by kpThorky on May 1, 2010

With the first round of the Advanced Training Group’s Social Networking workshops completed, the initial signs are showing it to be very successful with companies in attendance beginning to take on board the ideas and lessons.

Social Networking is making the business world smaller whilst making each business target a larger client base and audience. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Flikr are allowing clients to window shop more for the products and services that they require and for the business owners it’s indirectly buying client loyalty.

From a networking perspective with Distressed Invest Property being based in Europe, while Advanced Training Group based in Bangkok, Thailand, it proves that social networking and conducting business globally to be easier than ever. A point that is not lost on both companies.

Distressed Invest are property specialists focussing on international properties that need selling quickly and for a price under the market value.  For example, clients may have defaulted on their mortgage payments and the bank has foreclosed the mortgage. This leaves the bank with a problem as they still are owed the money and they now have a bank of properties they have no experience of selling.

Ken Thorkildsen, of Advanced Training Group, has been advising and consulting with Distressed Invest on how best to use and market with social networking. “Distressed Invest usually market to their clients with email and telephone call. You just need to check your emails every day to see the amount of junk and spam that is being sent to us all every day via email which means that the proper business emails you send can often not get read or indeed may end up in the junk mail folder.”

“One to one telephone consultations will definitely build up a relationship with clients and indeed advising clients that all calls will be followed up by an email is always to be recommended.” Ken goes on, “Social Networking will now allow Distressed Invest Property to give clients up to the minute news and information on products and properties without the need to keep inundating the client with telephone calls and emails. It also gives clients the opportunity to browse of “window shop” the services and also to make comment etc on Distressed Invest and for other clients to browse these comments. Facebook for example has 462m users worldwide and will grow into an excellent shop window for Distressed Invest.”

“The AT Group, in addition, believe that Twitter will also be an excellent marketing tool for Distressed Invest. Twitter is non offensive in that it is a simple couple of lines of marketing to each client directing them to updates etc at the blog they have started.” Ken concludes, “I wouldn’t say it is a new direction for Distressed Invest, however it is an additional approach to their already professional and successful business model and AT Group look forward to helping and watching the business grow and the success that will grow with it. This ultimately is the mission for Advanced Training Group and their clients.”

Matthew Moore, founder of Distressed Invest adds, “I have been involved in marketing and real estate for many years and I feel that that the external expertise and new approach from AT Group will definitely help grow Distressed Invest. The amount of networking contacts we all have through our many years of business it makes sense to move our marketing into this direction. With AT Group behind the majority of the marketing, it will allow me and my team to focus directly on servicing our clients. I am very pleased and indeed very excited about the way forward.”

The Value of External Training

Posted by kpThorky on April 30, 2010

What value is there in arranging external training? Ron Cartey, founder of Bangkok based Advance Training Group explains the benefits of using external consultants to balance the training department of both large corporations and SME’s.

Ron explains, “Training and consulting are generally for businesses who want to maintain their standards, improve their employee’s skills and ultimately, increase the performance and results of the company and business. Business experts are unanimous in their thoughts that having a balanced and structured training programme taking in both internal and external resources is essential.”

“Many businesses have established an in house training programme or have appointed a training manager which eliminates the possibility of using the professional, balanced and experience of an external training consultant.”, Ron added.

Research shows that companies with the largest commitment to external training are also those which have the largest and more sophisticated internal training departments.

Ron continues, “In my many years business experience, I constantly see that no matter how professional and proficient internal staff are after a period they can become stale. Its human nature as the same material presented in the same way loses its initial impact and the underlying factor is that training must be motivational as well as informative.”

So, how do we motivate and inform at the same time? Well, it is well known and accepted that internal training by company staff is regarded by trainees as company duty. It is generally something that has to be followed.

Ron goes on, “Being selected to attend a programme conducted by an external resource is regarded as a demonstration of high regard by the company. This motivational effect alone often provides the catalyst for improved performance.”

“External training is cost effective because companies only pay for a training resource when they actually need it whereas, the cost of running even a small training department can be expensive.” Added Ron.

“At Advanced Training Group (AT Group), we as a professional organisation employe employs experts in different disciplines who are constantly kept up to date and have a continual source of new ideas and techniques through the variety of Consultancy assignments they conduct.”

Ron concluded, “In addition, we as external consultants can train at all levels within an organisation whereas an internal trainer will have difficulty training above his previous successful position or his superiors.”

Wise words indeed, and in the current business climate, it may just be that extra edge that your business, company and employees need to make that leap and get the wheels of business in motion again.
